I'm 23, male, I've been in the US Coast Guard for four years and am an Avionics Electrical Technician 2nd Class and HH-65C helicopter Flight Mechanic. I plan to stay in for the forseeable future.

I'm new to photography since December of '07, having had no interest in the subject since I was a youth. At that time I was forced by my mother to join summer school programs to keep me busy when I wasn't in school. One of these was a photography course which involved taking and developing my own 35mm B&W film photos.

I'm pretty much a loner personality, currently shoot a Nikon D40 and a Rolleiflex 3.5, and tend towards stationary subjects. I've never considered myself an artistic person, being a complete failure at at least three different musical instruments, and my drawing and painting skills never progressed past the fourth grade; But with photography I've found a medium that I enjoy experimenting with, since I'm a very mechanical person and I readily absorb information about mechanical things and how to use them; Since photography is the art of using a machine to create a specific result, I understand it much better than a blank canvas and a pallet of paints.

I don't do any post-processing other than an occasional tweak of a horizon line if it's less than ~2 degrees off. If it's too far off kilter I just leave it as a reminder to compose better next time. I shoot in JPEG Fine right now because I want to learn how to make the camera record the images that I want, not go in later and change all the properties of a RAW file.
