describe myself? what? i'd rather click on the "rather not say" button, but what the hell. i'll give it a shot. haven't really done anything like this since my fourth step. (friends of bill's will understand that.)

physically, i'm 6'2, about 200 lbs with blondish whitish silverish hair that i wish i had more of, blue eyes that i wish focused better, and more years on my time line than i care to admit. to earn a few bucks, i peddle beach houses in rhode island. it's a second career, having spent some time in marketing with the nfl and a couple of other places nowhere near as exciting or impressive, and then way too much time in graphic arts and printing.

mentally, i'm about half-smart. i'm one of those oddballs that did way better on the verbal s.a.t.s than the math. to keep my mind working, i read a lot of fiction and look forward to the sunday crossword puzzle in the ny times. i usually get about a 95 on that and sometimes i even finish it. i do it in ink to piss off my friends.

politically, i agree with winston churchill who said something like, "democracy is absolutely the worst form of government, except for all other forms of government." i guess that makes me more of a libertarian than anything else. today is nov. 3, 2008 and i'm not going to tell you who i'll likely vote for on nov. 4.

the beach is why and where i live. i love it at dawn and dusk and when few other people are around unless they're 18 and in a bikini. i guess that makes me a dirty old man. but at least the flame still burns.

my mental health is cared for by a med-management shrink who writes scrips for zoloft to lift my mood and which i take about half of and adderall to focus my attention-deficit-disorder mind and which i wish i had more of. i also talk to tom once a week who is a therapist and a friend and who is in charge of maintaining my sanity. he is sometimes successful.

i used to shoot a lot of pictures with a canon f-1 circa 1978. i had an f-1.4 55mm, an 80-200 zoom, and a 300mm f-3.6 (i think); all canon glass. canon gave all that stuff to me when i set them up as "photo consultant to the nfl" and "official camera of the super bowl". what a hoot. i gave it all to my daughter when she got interested in photography and i was no longer since i couldn't get field passes to football games anymore. the nfl had given me the opportunity to succeed elsewhere.

my interest in pictures came back when i semi-retired and moved to my beach house year-round. i was shooting with an old olympus 2mp snapshot camera which somehow became less fullfilling (duh). so last spring i treated myself to a nikon d-80 with the 18-200 nikkor vr zoom. i have yet to even put any kind of a scratch in the surface of what i have to learn. but i'm getting a major kick out of trying and have captured a few things that, slowly but surely, i'm getting up the nerve to post on flickr.

as to the rest of my profile, i'm addicted to alcohol, so i no longer drink. today is day number 8,928 without a martini or anything else. i am also addicted to sand, sea glass, sunsets, sunrises, red meat, butter, and white chocolate. i feed these addictions regularly.

purveyor of beach shacks with sandy floors and squeaky screen doors and the permanent aroma of salt air. buyers pay millions for them and then, all too often, bulldoze them and build palaces with central air and no charm.
