Quality Bagpipes' photostream |
Hello and thanks for visiting our photostream. We're Quality Bagpipes - a specialist retailer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. We have a wide range of bagpipes for sale, as well as piping accessories, carry cases, reeds and maintenance items.
We live and breath bagpipes - we're players as well as makers. If there's anything we can do to help, don't hesitate to get in touch. Even better, if you're in Edinburgh, come down to our workshop and speak to us direct. We might even play you a tune!
Quality Bagpipes was started in 1990 by Neil Manderson and Dave Wardell. Both guys have played pipes since a young age and in fact used to compete together in the same school pipe band. Both Neil and Dave were tutored by Callum McPhee - a very respected teacher of bagpipe music, from the 'old school'.
Although we're on the internet, we also have a bagpipe workshop in Edinburgh, where we make beautiful handmade bagpipes for our customers all over the world.
As well as making highland pipes, Quality Bagpipes also manufactures Scottish smallpipes, Chamber pipes, learning kits and practice chanters. Recently, Neil and Dave wrote two booklets of their own - one relating to pipe maintenance and the other a very precise book (with an accompanying CD) designed to teach people to play.
All our own pipes are named 'Kilberry Bagpipes' and we make a number of different sets.
We also sell a wide range of pipes from other manufacturers including: R G Hardie Bagpipes, McCallum Bagpipes, Wallace Bagpipes and Peter Henderson Bagpipes.
Everything is done on the premises including some of the reed making and all bagpipes are fully assembled and thoroughly tested before leaving the workshop.
Over the years, both Neil and Dave have continued to play pipes and until recently, were competing at the highest Grade One level. Work commitments have meant the competing side has had to take a back seat. Grade One bands they have competed for include Shotts and Dykehead Polkemmet and Dysart and Dundonald.
During this extensive period, a combination of the continual playing, competing and setting up of the instrument, has led to the Quality team having a vast amount of experience and knowledge as far as bagpipes are concerned.
Neil and Dave are very proud of the instruments they produce and of their many completely satisfied customers over the years. They strive to produce the best bagpipes in the world.
