"The thing i like most about hokulea's photos are that they give you such a rich insight into what life in hawaii is like - she really should be on hawaii's tourist board pay-roll ;-)
Not to mention she's funny and takes great photos too :-)"

"Hokulea is the kind of person that can be articulate even with the simplest of words, artistic with the easiest of materials, civil in the worst of circumstances, and always seems to understand the underlined picture (no pun intended). She has an inner sense of grace that has carried her well through hula (don't pretend like it isn't true...). When I was young, extremely angry and ideal, I thought that these were aspects that could be easily found in large groups of people. Now I'm ... not so young, and understand how wonderful it is to have people like Hokulea around. And she cooks good too!!"

"I've started and restarted writing this testimonial a dozen times now. I think because you're so clever and eloquent, I've been trying a little too hard to be clever and eloquent myself here. But this time, I'm sending whatever I come up with.

I love your incredibly varied, artisitc, sometimes hilarious photography, but I love hanging out in your photostream even more. Nothing on flickr makes me laugh or think more than your photos and the priceless discussions that flow from them, whether it's the fate of the Hawaiian nation or the fate of a cute college student on "The Price Is Right." Finding you on flickr has been a great gift for me, and it's clear that many others feel the same. Mahalo, dear neighbor!"

"She and her particular way to see and capture the life from her own perspective...

Her commentaries are about the reality that she sees, about the simple gifts that the life can bring to us.

Hokulea is always with her camera shooting the truth, now i'm telling to all of you the great human being that Hokulea is, not only by the things that she show to us through her camera... i'm talking too about her way to be.

    A kiss 4 u dear!"

you can experience a rare view into hawaiian beauty and culture with her photos....
time spent on the mainland allowed her to document fantastic images here in the golden state as well....

a beautiful lady from what i can see from afar....perhaps one day i will get a chance to meet her in person....
as i would love to follow her around on her island of aloha....
and shoot some images of the hawaii
that leya knows and calls home!

    cheers to hokulea!!"

"Legend has it that Hokulea was created out of a complex mixture of rich Hawaiian soil, the blessings of scattered showers, the cool sway of trade winds, and a few secret ingredients only her `aumâkua knows for sure.

Hokulea has the gift of vision. She sees the beauty that surrounds her, and captures it well in photos and in other forms of artistic expression. Lots of Aloha here, plenty mana, and a shining star in the flickr ohana."

"Did you read the rest of the testimonials here below??? Because I think these people got it right.
As for what I think, make sure you browse her stream well, because she'll introduce the warmth of the islands to you (she's got some bootie-shots from over there too), she'll seduce you with her wittiness, she'll probably make you hungry with some tasty food snaps, and most importantly - she'll make you laugh!!! And you still wanna ask for more, FOOL!?!?"

"Just like the hawaiian double hulled canoe Hokulea riding the Hawaiian cultural wave of the 1970's till now, hokulea in flickr is sure to tell us and inspire us a whole lot more!
Her photos whilst personal and inviting are beautiful and insightful. Reflecting the strength of the hawaiian people, that whilst Hawaiians are a people under illegal occupation, viewing her images reinforces to us all Hawaii's resolve to self determination as the rightful cultural owners of thier islands!

    Hokulea says: "E makaukau?"

and of course we reply - " 'Ae!"

    Keep clicking your camera Hokulea!!!!!!"

for hokulea who dances in the sea…her photos are just as smart and sassy as she is. her passion for dance, music and ohana are “laid out under the sun” like a Hawaiian quilt. i feel the warmth and love of the islands in her photos.

...and this flickr sistah has the wittiest come-backs so watch out!"

"She's the perfect mix of internal and external beauty, intuition and book smarts, gallery stroller and rock-n-roller. In fact, I think I hate her. She's just good at everything she tries."
