Providence Archives collects, organizes, preserves, and makes available records of enduring and historical value relating to the Sisters of Providence religious community and Providence Health and Services.

Institutional and corporate records, manuscripts and personal papers, photographs, audiovisual materials, and artifacts document the Providence ministries. Collections date from 1856 to the present and encompass the western United States, as well as the mission in El Salvador.

The collections, totaling is approximately 5,000 cubic feet are a unique and valuable resource for those studying Pacific Northwest history, Catholic religious life, women’s studies, genealogy, and the development of health care, education and social services.

Providence Archives provide reference and research services to Sisters of Providence, Providence Health System and Providence Services personnel, historians, scholars, and the general public. The staff responds to telephone, letter, or e-mail requests, but cannot conduct extensive research for persons outside the religious community and sponsored ministries. Researchers are welcome to use historical resources at the Archives.
