I'm an American who's been living abroad in Tianjin, China, since early 2004. As a photographer, I'd rate myself a serious amateur (or amateurish professional) who looks to photography more as a hobby than as a way to make money. Flickr allows me to personally document my life in China, share my experiences with friends and family, and let Westerners see how different -- and yet similar -- China is.


My core subjects are of course Chinese culture, the scourge (or whimsy) of Chinglish, and urban life in China (Tianjin is a city of 10 million+ people at the edge of Beijing). I also enjoy forays into nature photography, portraiture, architecture, and the occasional foodie pic. I have a fairly large moblog set but these days I moblog using Instagram to post to Flickr. Besides traditional digital photography I frequently dabble in HDR and IR photography, but these are two fields where I am far more amateur than professional.


The work found in my photostream is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 2.0 Generic license, and my photos are free to post on your website or use in your non-for-profit publications so long as proper attribution is given. My photos have been featured in publications by Tianjin Jin Wan Bao group, the United Nations, Tianjin expat-focused magazines, and several charities and educational institutions. In addition, one of my HDR shots recently (winter 2012) made it into the book Religion for Atheists by Alain de Botton. If you would like to use my photos commercially, they can be made available for reasonable rates of compensation.
