Pogo Nip

Pogo Nip, is dense fog know as the “White Death” by the Shoshone peoples of
South West United States. Original Shoshone word is pakenappeh, that
Somehow turned into pogonip!

However the term Pogonip has by modern man, come to mean the beautiful frost that forms from the ice fog!

Freezing fog adheres to everything but the bare ground and soft ice crystals might form on vegetation or any object that has been chilled below freezing point by radiation cooling. This deposit of ice crystals is known as rime frost or as it is called in the Southwest United States Pogo Nip. and may sometimes be so thick that it might look like snow. Interlocking ice crystals may adhere to trees, leaves, fences, and give one an out of this world "winter wonderland" day. However, the fine feathers, needles and spines might also be found on any other object that is exposed to supersaturated air below freezing temperature.

These ice crystal of frozen fog can be felt on ones face when outside, and a picture taken with flash at niight reveals them in a wonderful way.
