Jon Fox is an independent, freelance travel and documentary photographer. Based in the heart of England, Jon travels extensively for leisure and business, working on assignment or on commission creating stock images, but always being inspired by what he sees. For Jon photography is more than a vocation or an art form, it’s a way of life. He acquired his first camera in his hand when he was thirteen, then over the next thirty years has never been without a camera in his hands.

SEEKING THE USUAL TO FIND THE UNUSUAL
As primarily a documentary travel photographer I see the world as my studio. The only equipment I require is a camera, an open mind combined with a willingness to look for new perspectives. My lighting comes with whatever is available: sun, sky, tungsten and neon. I am not restricted by subject or location, only by an obligation to visually record the world around us with honesty and compassion. To me it’s more than just exotic locations, mind blowing views and wild adventures. I see my photography as seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes and an overwhelming enthusiasm.
Having travelled the world for the last twenty years photographing and filming, I have always sought the unusual, becoming genuinely excited by the culture of the communities I encounter. Some of my most interesting work has been street photography home and abroad. Here I have sought to capture the feel of the locality, the vibrancy of the people and to show the hidden depths which are not always visible at first sight. Undoubtedly living and working in and amongst communities off the beaten track particularly the Far East, have so far been my most enlightening projects - as documentary and travel photography go hand in hand. There are too many fleeting glimpses of this world that are either ignored, or lost forever. My duty is to capture and communicate them giving that moment, exposure to a greater audience.
One of the biggest challenges I face is in making total strangers feel at ease. I see the camera as an extension of my minds eye. With the click of the shutter capturing for eternity a situation or environment. As I walk through differing places I never know what to expect. But wherever I am, whenever I go, my camera and eye are there to freeze that moment for others to share.
