I always loved photography although as a kid was never really good at all. I got my first SLR when I went to high school and took photography. I learned a lot in that class and it was actually quite fun compared to the rest of high school. I learned portrait, landscape, how to develop B& W, Color etc etc.
In the summer of 2003 on Nantucket, my SLR kicked the bucket. I was forced, with my limited budget, to purchase a digital point & shoot Pentax. Well I re-fell in love with photography. I could take a gazillion pictures at virtually no expense. All was great again..
The bug bit hard though and I took the plunge in 2006 with purchasing a DSLR. I now have a Nikon D-100, a wide angle, telephoto/zoom, zoom and normal lenses. I have a Smith Victor light set and background. I'm good to go with most types of photography.
Most recently I purchased a Nikon D300. This camera rules. I have been able to do a lot more with the camera. My current direction has been event photography. I now use Adobe Lightroom for most post processing. I seldomly but sometimes use Adobe CS3.
