A couple of years ago I decided it was time to take up making artworks again. I wanted to learn how to use pastels to make landscape scenes inspired by Reg Mombassa's work for Mambo.

In preparation, Father Christmas brought me some paper and pastels. And I started taking photos of local landscapes.

One thing led to another.

I'm still taking photos and haven't touched pastel to paper yet.

Here are some of them for your delectation!

I do take the usual family and friends snapshots, but haven't put any on here.

My Dad and Sister are (were) keen photographers, but it took many years before I caught the shutterbug. Before the camera got me, I'd studied art and design in practice and theory at Honours Degree level and photography and visual culture at Masters. Photography has brought me new challenges and new learning.

For me it's the perfect combination of personal challenge, artistic practice,, gadgets, technology, art, science, philosophy, aesthetics, media studies, humour, profundity, journalism and documentary.

And stuff.

It's also an artistic medium that's easy to share. That's why I'm posting here! To share and to see other people's work.

Thanks!

P.S. I've been invited to exhibit in the Hereford Photography Festival Fringe 2011. Here's a statement about my work I was asked to prepare:

"I always have a camera with me - smartphone, small top-range compact, or DSLR. Consequently in day-to-day life I’m usually ready when an interesting photo opportunity presents itself. Or sometimes I go looking for one"
