Curious, interested in many subjects (art, science, sports, even politics), avid book reader and movie lover (usually non-mainstream,
independent, mostly artsy, low budget, foreign), more of a thinker than a doer (exception: photography and exercise).
Interested also in Secular Humanism. And a "big fan" of critical thinking. .

My statement:
I started doing photography in 1982. I was drawn to it
indirectly: I was interested in films, and eventually
I realized that part of my fascination came from
photography. In 1982 I took a class sponsored by the
City of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and since
then I have been taking photos. I like many subjects,
but I am mainly inclined to what I call "urban
landscape", which is a natural option if you are
in Buenos Aires, it is very photogenic!
But I do not like to label my photography, anything
that gets my attention can become my photo-subject.
Sometimes I feel that my eyes are zoom-lenses, I can
spot a subject far away, and I can focus in small
details, the camera becomes the medium to capture
the image in order to share it with other people.
After almost 25 years of taking pictures I can say that
the enthusiasm, curiosity and passion for photography
are still with me.

"The fundamental cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid are cocksure, while the intelligent are full of doubt" - Bertrand Russell

"Our knowledge can only be finite, while our ignorance must necessarily be infinite" - Karl Popper

"The indefatigable pursuit of an unattainable perfection, even though it consists in nothing more than the pounding of an old piano, is what alone gives meaning to our life on this unavailing star."- Logan Pearsall Smith (1865 - 1946)

"Science should be taught not in order to support religion and not in order to destroy religion. Science should be taught simply ignoring religion." - Steven Weinberg - Physicist, Texas University, Nobel Prize recipient (Physics, 1979)

Some quotes from Bertrand Russell:

"The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good."

"If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way."

"Our great democracies still tend to think that a stupid man is more likely to be honest than a clever man."

"Passive acceptance of the teacher's wisdom is easy to most boys and girls. It involves no effort of independent thought, and seems rational because the teacher knows more than his pupils; it is moreover the way to win the favour of the teacher unless he is a very exceptional man. Yet the habit of passive acceptance is a disastrous one in later life. It causes man to seek and to accept a leader, and to accept as a leader whoever is established in that position."

"Science may set limits to knowledge, but should not set limits to imagination."

"The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge. "

"War does not determine who is right - only who is left. "

"We are faced with the paradoxical fact that education has become one of the chief obstacles to intelligence and freedom of thought."

"The universe may have a purpose, but nothing we know suggests that, if so, this purpose has any similarity to ours."

"What is wanted is not the will to believe, but the will to find out, which is the exact opposite."

" Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away " ~ Philip K. Dick

""Morality is doing what is right, regardless what we are told. Religious dogma is doing what we are told, no matter what is right."

From East of Eden, John Steinbeck:
"And this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about. I can understand why a system built on a pattern must try to destroy the free mind, for that is one thing which can by inspection destroy such a system. Surely I can understand this, and I hate it and I will fight against it to preserve the one thing that separates us from the uncreative beasts. If the glory can be killed, we are lost."

“It is worthy of remark that a belief constantly inculcated during the early years of life, while the brain is impressible, appears to acquire almost the nature of an instinct; and the very essence of an instinct is that it is followed independently of reason,” Charles Darwin wrote in “The Descent of Man.”

    No pares.
