I have two cameras:

Kodak EasyShare DX4530 and
Nikon D50 with a Sigma DC 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3 D lens.

The numbers on my lens confuse me like you wouldn't believe and I ignore them. I look through the viewfinder and I roll the thing around on the lens until I'm happy with what I see. Then I click - and hope. Horrah for clever cameras and the invention of digital!

My photos are mostly taken on the hop and although I own a tripod I don’t use it.

P.S. Patarika is Maori for Patricia. It is the name the old folks on the East Coast called me by in my younger days. They are gone now, but I loved them greatly and am glad to carry the memory of them in this way.

Cheers

Update 2 February 2011

I can now : turn off my flash; put the dial on A, and choose my own aperture.

And I use my tripod. I don't enjoy using it. It dislikes me. It trips me up; pounces upon me when I least expect it; attempts to dislodge the camera and insists upon pointing, not quite where I want it to. Sometimes it pretends to, but when I step back and it knows I’m not looking, it sneakily creeps away, just enough to ruin my shot. Now and then it drops screws and one leg adamantly refuses to maintain its height. It liked its life in the cupboard. I liked its life in the cupboard too, but I have realised it makes a difference and so, from time to time, we both must suffer.

I have learned how to do bokeh and I have discovered textures. I am mightily excited by them. I make my own too, although they’re a bit odd. However, I hope to improve.

This year I intend to learn about HDR.

I love Flickr! I love the wonderful photos, the transportation into other worlds, the new skills I am discovering and learning about, and I love my contacts – well, those who comment. If you make me a contact and don’t bother to comment I eventually get the huff and remove you.

I am open to criticism. I don’t mind brutal.

Cheers again :)
