pan-a-foot (păn' ũh fʊt) v. covering great distances to see more of the world under one’s own power.

Panafoot is a word we created to describe what we want to do; hiking, biking, paddling, and recording what we see with high quality photographs. John’s photos range from macro views to 180 degree panoramas. We invite you to follow our travels on our blog at www.panafoot.com.

About Us

John is originally from Chicago and had traveled throughout the western US the summer after college. He then began working in Louisville KY but always intended to relocate somewhere in the northwest US in the future. Jean is originally from Jeffersontown, KY and had only dreamed of exploring the western US. We met in Louisville and in the fall of 1977 packed up a few belongings, left family and friends behind and headed for Seattle.

We have both always loved the outdoors and living in the Pacific Northwest provided us with numerous opportunities to hike and backpack. Family vacations with our sons, Dan and Tom, allowed us to explore the southwest US as well. And we have been fortunate to have opportunities to experience some of the iconic natural wonders on other continents. All have provided John, a life long avid photographer, opportunities to take countless photographs.

In April 2010, as our sons are now grown and John is retired, we began living our long held dream of becoming “nomads”. For the next 10 years or so we plan to live full time in our 27' motor home and explore North America by hiking, biking and paddling as well as traveling internationally.
