Its not hard to see beauty around us. All we have to do is look.

I'm a point n shoot kind of photographer. I never alter the camera settings.
Most of the photos are from walks I take around Japan.
They are mostly explorations, places I have never been to before.

I do minimal processing, mainly cropping.

I recommend using the slideshow option as each set is a chronological sequence.

I am interested in feedback on which groups to post to, which groups would appreciate my work.

"You are truly one of a kind photographer. You have the skill to notice the meaningfulness of shapes in a unique way. Your shots are beautiful and thought-provoking and have a calm, peaceful, positive resonance. All of them is like stating a philosophy, without moralization. I am happy to have discovered your stream on Flickr."

"Few photographers have Ojisanjake’s compositional skills. In his abstracts and other artistic works, Jake has a keen eye, inventive framing and a creative approach, presenting us with impressive and enjoyable artistic shots with compelling consistency. His stream is not only a delight to behold, but is also one of the more important catalogues of works on Flickr, advancing our notion of what modern photography can achieve. In two words...Jake rocks!"

"This man is a truly great photographer. He often takes pictures of seemingly mundane subjects, but manages to turn them into eyecatching shots. And he's incredibly prolific - it's not so much a photostream as a torrent.

    Keep up the excellent work!"

"Ojisanjake is not only a great, great photographer by his own personality, but is the perfect example for everyone here in flickr about what you can do when you have decided to use an instrument like a camera in order to get beauty, joy, misterious or surprise from the most common things that sorround us. When I see his work, and then go to the street, work or even the bathroom, I am always tempted to think: "Oh, I see things around here, but I am almost sure that Ojisanjake could see a lot more than me". Thus, he represents a personal challange that benefits me all the time, and I would like to think that such a marvelous and stimulating sensation can happen to everyone who has the privilege to know his work."

"Ojisanjake, Jake, has an unique eye for photography, his compositions are absolutely outstanding, most of them truly masterpieces, his works are made to be shown, to learn from. Here you can see how a master plays with the lights and creates beauty from the most common objects, subjects or situations. A real artist with a very strong and personal style. Thanks a lot for your support, thanks for all your comments and faves since my beginnings here, six wonderful months ago, much appreciated, my friend."

"Ojisanjake / Jake Davies's photographs are an astonishing documentation of diverse rich and interesting aspects of Japanese cultural life, and gardens.

As for his Yabusame set, it is by far the most gorgeous, rich, beautiful, and interesting slide show I have ever seen on Flickr. To capture so much, each image framed so well, in such a short space of time is a phenomenal achievement, and a gift for all who choose to view it.

Thank you very much for such a masterful piece of artistic and cultural documentation....Jake, you should publish it as a book, with brief explanatory commentary."

"Ojisanjake’s photos go to the very core of realism, and beyond – they reach that peculiar spot where realism turns into something else. Suddenly, the myriad things we had taken for granted are no longer bland, dusty, humdrum, but rich with expressivity and strangeness, and inner harmony; a subtle geometrical play of surfaces and elements emerges. Time and again, I look, and I’m bewildered, and I wonder how this miraculous alchemy has taken place, only by virtue of the eye of Ojisan."

"I realized that I was a true fan of Ojisan Jake's the other evening while walking with my wife. I pointed to some sort of vegetation growing on a wall and said to my wife, "There's this fellow on Flickr who could point his camera at that and turn it into a magical image." My words were slightly wrong. Jake just shows us where the magic is by capturing the beauty in something that could simply be taken for granted.
The old saying reminds us that "God is in the details." If that be the case, then God is certainly in Ojisan Jake's work."

"Ojisanjake says "Its not hard to see beauty around us. All we have to do is look.", but he does more than look.... He perceives the essence of places and things and honors that. I think that is what makes his photos sometimes almost unbearably beautiful.

I am grateful to be inspired by his vision."

My congratulations! Thank you for sharing this world with us! Thye symbols, subjects you catch are often ancient - and I'm happy you can give them another life in your works. The worls of color and nature is stunning too! You can easily print a book with your images to share with more people this captures of Japan and your travels. I also wish I could see bigger size images as in many of your photos I stop to explore them longer..."
