My friend Marcy says that some people are “seekers.” Seekers are those who are insatiably curious; always on a constant quest for experiences and knowledge. I’m pretty sure I’m a seeker.
I’ve been a voracious reader my entire life and my book choices swing wildly and expand rapidly. On the one hand, I read a steady diet of mystery novels when I want something fun and relaxing. On the other, an article or film can lead me to books such as Michael Pollan’s “In Defense of Food,” Martha Beck’s “The Joy Diet,” Anthony Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential,” or Daniel Meyerson’s “In the Valley of the Kings.” My magazine choices range from “Shape” to “Better Homes & Gardens,” “Reader’s Digest” and “Cooking Light.” And yes, I still love the comics section in the Sunday paper.
I’m also incredibly restless. I love, love, love to travel. I’ve been to Paris, London, throughout Italy, Southern Spain and India plus many cities in the US and Canada. I like nothing better than taking off and exploring another culture, cuisine and way of life. The place I’m dying to go? Egypt.
My latest adventure has been to pull up roots from my hometown of Orange County, California and move to Seattle, Washington to start married life. I’m in a new town, my first marriage, and among a weather pattern and lifestyle that is a 180 degrees from Orange County. The adjustment is sometimes fun, sometimes meltdown worthy, sometimes baffling, but always interesting.
Why did I start blogging? To share experiences, to start a conversation and to keep focused on what is so easy to forget – this is an exciting, crazy, beautiful world that is too great to let pass us by.
