NURU INTERNATIONAL is a new humanitarian organization committed to ending extreme poverty by pioneering sustainable, holistic solutions in partnership with poor.

WHO WE ARE:
We are a grassroots movement of thousands who have grown tired of waiting for someone else to end extreme poverty in Africa.

Positions:
1.WE’RE ON THE GROUND IN AFRICA listening to and empowering the poor to lift themselves out of extreme poverty (to read more check out our description below).
2.WE MOBILIZE THE DEVELOPED WORLD to get in the fight by catalyzing a grassroots movement to end extreme poverty in our lifetime.
3.WE INVITE THIRD PARTY EVALUATION of our work to ensure that the poor are receiving the results they deserve

HOW NURU WORKS:

1. WE LISTEN to those living in extreme poverty through interviews, community meetings, and extensive surveys.
2. WE INNOVATE with local leaders and brainstorm appropriate, sustainable solutions to their greatest needs.
3. WE EMPOWER the poor through training and mentorship to lift themselves out of poverty.
4. WE PARTNER with other NGOs and organizations that employ local people to undertake infrastructure projects (like drilling new wells and building new schools), and invite volunteers in the developed world to come to Africa and share their expertise.
5. WE EVALAUTE our work by inviting outside teams of professionals to measure our results and tell us what we can do better. We then go back to step one and listen all over again to create even better solutions.
6. WE SCALE our work by training trainers to go out and empower other local communities.
7. WE LEAVE after 5 years to prevent dependency.

WHERE WE WORK:
We’ve begun our pilot project in Kuria, Kenya, and are currently establishing a baseline for the community. We’ve met with local leadership and are now identifying individuals to become trainers of trainers. Soon we’ll be conducting trainings on agriculture and sanitation, distributing seed and fertilizer to farmers in our program, and digging a well.
