about noisivelvet

Our mission statement: advocate for the arts, and artists making public work. The organization is active in creating opportunities for artist to create public work. The organization became a recognized 501(C)(3) not for profit in 2009.

Current programs and projects include:

The Learning Moving Image Festival - A festival where moving image makers can screen their work and get valuable feedback from respected members of the community. Screening takes place at the Humboldt Park Art Fair.

The noisivelvet book award - An award created for community college artists competing in their student art shows. The program is currently active at Southwestern Illinois College and Lewis & Clark Community College, with plans to expand to other Illinois community colleges in 2012.

The noisivelvet adopt a station artist collaboration - A call for artists in Summer of 2010 created a small focused group of artists with plans to create an installation at a CTA L stop. The collaboration continues to reach into the community creating partnerships, dialogue and growth opportunity.

The mobile garden project - A one month art installation of a native plant garden onto a CTA flat train car with regular service. With the blessing of the CTA to move forward on this, noisivelvet continues to search for a corporate partner to carry the contract to feature ideas of responsible materials, urban stewardship, and sustainability.
