Born in Scotland, I grew up partly in Canada. I studied at Aberdeen and Edinburgh and then became a Sociology professor at the University of Guelph (1972-80) and Memorial University (1980-2011). Currently retired and living in Courtenay, British Columbia, I enjoy photography, painting, and cooking - plus hiking when my knee will take it.

I became interested in photography about 1980 as my painting was taking a more realistic turn. From 1981 to 1992 I took many slides and was a keen black and white darkroom processor. I took relatively few photos in the 1990s until I purchased my first digital camera about 2000. Today I use a Nikon P7000 and a D7000 with Nikon 10-24, 35, 50, 60 macro and 55-200. I also have a Sigma APO 70-300.

In 1987, I joined Camera 35 in St. John's, NL. I found it a rewarding experience and still have friends from those days. I am delighted to be a lifetime member.

I process with Capture NX 2 and Lightroom 3 +Topaz, NIK ColorEfex and SilverEfex Pro 2 filters, making largely minor adjustments, although it's fun to get more creative from time to time.

I hope you enjoy some of my photos. I appreciate everyone who views, comments or marks a photo as a favourite.
