After spending years telling everybody that I was going to write again after I got over my bout of writer's block -- at the moment, it's less about writer's block and more about me just being lazy and unmotivated -- I decided to explore a different means of creative expression: photography. Between exploring the works of photographers such as Walker Evans, Diane Arbus, Rolling Stone-era Annie Leibovitz, and Richard Avedon and traveling to NYC (where images beg to be photographed), I felt that I found my creative calling. Since 2003, I've used the same digital camera: a tiny 3.2 mpxl Sony camera that I purchased at Target originally meant to record images of me in NYC, not thinking it would serve any artistic purpose. It's primitive by today's standards, but, for the most part, it's served me well and it's made candid photography relatively easy! Along with the above mentioned photographers, I'm also an admirer of the works of August Sander, Cindy Sherman, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Francesco Scavullo, and Dorothea Lange. All have radically different approaches, but all aim for the same things: to tell a story and imbue it with aesthetic beauty (even if it's most unconventional) and emotional truthfulness.

Other than that ..... I'm over 18. How cruel time is!

"When Nikolai commented on my 1st photo, I found that there is much essence to it than just a plain comment. The comment is always very descriptive and detailed. I really enjoy how Nikolai makes analysis on the photo that he is commenting.

Nikolai photostream which has the range of self portaits to abstract graphic, makes me admire how creative he is as a photographer. Always go beyond the norm, Nikolai always produces something that makes us ponder and wanted to view over and over again.

Nikolai is not just a photographer, he is a very good and creative photographer that I think will be able to open his own photography exhibition one day.

For Nikolai, please keep up your good work and I am happy that I am one of your flickr friends who never tired of admiring your works.

    Azlan,
    your friend,...faraway"

    Tomitheos says:

"Nikolai creatively frames architectural angles with his keen analytical eye for natural color and beauty. In doing so Nikolai has produced one of the best vivid colored photostreams on flickr!
In his photo-journey Nikolai captures moments that reminds us that it is the path we take, and not the destination, that impacts our lives.
I am always eager to view Nikolai’s new images every time he posts them and wish him the best of luck in his life endeavors."

    Darwin Bell says:

"If you like colors or composition, then you are going to LOVE Nikolai's photostream. He knows how to look at something, then photograph it to make it into artwork. He knows exactly what to show and what not to show. His work is amazing...and it will make you really want to see Buffalo's Exteriors in person!!! Keep on shooting!!"
