A pianist from age 5 and a photographer from age 25.
Coming from a small country town in NSW, I moved to Sydney when I was 10. Prior to photography, I persued a career in the music industry, so Ive always had the creative streak.
Im predominantly a self taught photographer and graphic artist with no formal qualifications.
I made an unusual and unorthodox entrance into the photography scene, having begun taking my first images using a 1.3Mp digital happy snaps camera, before a short stint using film and making a quick transition into the digital arena with the purchase of a Canon 300D, DSLR in 2000.
Although my first digital camera was fairly limited in what it could do, it filled a need at a time in my life when I had no creative outlet (no piano to play). The transition to photography from music came with ease as I thought photography was the next most creative outlet.
I achieved some amazing results with my 'happy snaps' camera and combined with photoshop (v6), i created some amazing graphic artworks which you can view on my website.
The flexibility and versatility of digital photography combined with low cost of printing and sharing my work were the deciding factors of me making the rather quick transition from film to digital.
In 2003, I staged my first exhibition in Sydney with overwhelming success, having sold 16 of 20 works during the exhibition, 11 of them on opening night.
2 of these artworks were selected to appear in an exclusive hard cover book of erotic art and photography, called Deep Blue Deluxe, published in 2004 by Blue Magazine. Of over 50 artists worldwide, I was the only Australian artist represented in the book.
All photographs used to create artworks for my first exhibition were taken using my 'happy snaps' camera.
In 2005, my photographic work was published by the ABC Gardening Australia and in 2006 I was offered a position as a photo-journalist for a new community newspaper based on the Upper North Shore of Sydney. Although a good experience and having met lots of new people and made some new friends, photo-journalism wasn't fulfilling my needs as an artist, so shortly after I resigned from the newspaper to follow my passion for creating photographic-art.
Enjoy.
