As a geospatial specialist with experience in research-based K-12 education, web design, GIS, remote sensing, and GPS, I have focused on situated learning, where learning opportunities are structured to solve real-world problems, assemble critical resources and to build upon the knowledge and skills of expert practitioners – especially those of the learners themselves.

While working on web portals designed to deliver remote sensing data of tornado and flooding events to emergency responders and managers, I have become a member of the Wisconsin Emergency Management E-Sponder network, and a registered National Weather Service Storm Spotter. While working as the Deputy Director/Programming and Training Officer for the Peace Corps in Botswana and Namibia, and prior to pursuing a Ph.D. as a non-traditional student, my duties included completing US State Department Crisis Management training and preparing country evacuation plans.

I am the administrator for “STORMS” groups on Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, Google Groups, and others.

As a science teacher, teacher trainer, and outreach specialist for the UW Space Science & Engineering Center, I have learned to never underestimate the ability of young people to create innovative uses and applications as early adopters of new information and communication technologies (ICT).

My most recent degree is: Ph.D. Curriculum & Instruction 2000, University of Wisconsin–Madison with Minor: Environmental Monitoring: Remote Sensing and Geospatial Information Science and Technology.

I have worked with students at all grade levels including graduate education (Sloan Professional Science Masters Program/Environmental Monitoring), and with teachers across the US and overseas.
