Born in April 1953, Neil Johnson has lived and worked in Exeter all his life. He is a full time manager of a swimming and makes pots as a serious hobby.
In 1971 he studied glass and ceramics at Exeter College of Art and Design; followed by a year studying studio pottery. He also worked at Dartington Glass as an apprentice.
Since 1975 he has been making domestic stoneware; including mugs, bowls, plates, teapots, jugs, woven clay baskets, oil decanters and casseroles in my studio in his garden in Exeter. Other work he make includes glass fusion, mosaics and a combination of thrown pieces, slab and applied clay to make unusual sculptural forms. Other work can be viewed on his website at:
He sells his work in four galleries in Devon.
He had his work selected for photographing by the Arts Council.
He was selected to exhibit at the Exeter Festival Crafts Market in 2005 and in 2006. In 2007 he will have stand no. 12 at the market on 15-16 June.
In 2006, he was one of the artists selected to take part in Exeter Open Studios, as part of the Exeter Autumn Festival.
He also make work for commissions.

Some of his recent work is influenced by his love of the water and he enjoys working with colour to add a twist to what are domestic, but functional items.
