“Nakia will be a tough act to follow.” "Soon-not-to-be-unknown." "No one saw him coming - but they can't forget Nakia now.” These are phrases recently used to describe Nakia and the sound he has defined as "Appalachian-Rock'n Soul." Since releasing his debut EP, "Playing The Cards" in February, Nakia hasn't just been creating a buzz in Austin, he's been ripping up the music scene like a chainsaw. After hand-picking some of Austin's best and most seasoned players to perform in his backing band, which he dubbed, his Southern Cousins, Nakia set about to turn things upside down. Instead of settling for gigs at dives and small bars, Nakia set his sights on venues like Austin's Continental Club where he began playing First Thursday Happy Hour gigs and recorded a live ME Television special legendary Antone's - Home Of The Blues. Nakia has is also being welcomed with open arms at many radio stations like KGSR and KLBJ-FM, many whose staff are big fans. Nakia & His Southern Cousins are currently performing every Friday night in Austin, TX at Ego's Lounge and at festivals all over Texas.
