William S. Burroughs' book Naked Lunch was first published by the Olympia Press in Paris, July 1959. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Naked Lunch, nakedlunch.org is helping to coordinate a series of celebrations around the world. Major celebrations include Paris (July 2009), Lawrence, KS (August 2009), and New York (October 2009). Other celebrations are currently being planned as well. There is also a commemorative volume of essays, co-edited by Ian MacFadyen and Oliver Harris, called Naked Lunch@50: Anniversary Essays.
