Muddyrabbit's photostream

In high school, I picked up my first Canon AE1. As I raised that
50mm lens to my eyes, I started to see the world in a different way.
From that point on I began to see things bracketed and often thought
"what if I change my depth of field or slowed my exposure?"
When attending collage at the Santa Rosa JC, I found my place in
the journalism wing, working as a lab tech. After a few years there, I
ended up joining the college paper. Then I left school in attempt to
shoot freelance. Life flew as if the shutter button was stuck on 7
fps. I got a few lucky shots that made in into print but all in all
the my personal trip was a short one. So one day, I guess you could
say, I ran out of film. I set my camera down and walked away from
photography all together, for reason's I still can't pinpoint.
In 2002 I picked up my camera again. The digital revolution was
coming and the age of analog was fading away. I longed to smell fixer
and the lingering odor of developer on my shirt. I then put down the
camera again and would not pick it up again until 2004 when I got my
first Mac computer.
I shot a little analog then switched to digital due to it's ease on
the environment. I have always said for most people digital is the way
to go. It allows the user to play and shoot without the repercussions
of chemicals.
So digital became a way of life for me that lasted for one year.. Then
a coworker introduced me to the world of the plastic camera.Within
this little cheap plastic box, I saw the gateway for me to reenter the
dark room and a real chance for me to get my feet wet in the world of
medium format. I got my first Holga at the start 2005,,during that
time until now, I have started a collection of these imperfect
camera's. I also sold a few prints and used the money to pick up a
Mamiya 645 1000s. I thought it would be a nice first real medium
format camera. And it has proved to be one!
The plastic camera has brought me full circle in my journey of
photography. It gave me the chance to once again play in the analog
world; setting shots while creating effects inside the camera, then
taking that image, once developed, and switching it to digital via a
8400F negative scanner. Thus giving me the best of both worlds - the
analog I know and love, and the digital I have come to embrace.
