i Leica, therefore, i M8!

Welcome to my world!

I love taking pictures... always have and I believe I have a good eye. A good friend recently reminded me of a past (very past) transgression involving a prom coat and a stolen camera: I stole a prom coat that happened to have a small Yashica 35mm film camera in the pocket! I hadn't thought about that in a long time. Moreover, I hadn't thought about the significance that act had on planting the seed of photography. I carried that camera everywhere for the several months it was in my possession. Someone finally ratted me out and the police came knocking... I had to pay for the coat and give back the camera.

Within a year or so, I purchased a Nikon N6006 35mm film camera. Film was to expensive if you weren't able to develop your own rolls. So the N6006 gathered dust and moved in and out of want-ads, and even spent time with my dad. But, when digital came along I was very excited to be able to start taking pictures again. My first digital camera was a Kodak DC5000. It was an all-weather, very rugged camera... I loved that camera. From there it was a D70, to D40, D300, D700, iPhone, a Leica M8, and now a Leica M9. Recently, my mom has joined in the fun, and has moved from a Canon point-n-shoot to a Nikon D40. In addition, my wife has set-up an account and has been uploading her pictures!

I am very passionate about photography. Many people take some very nice photos. But, having an "eye" for capturing a moment or scene is something, I believe, either you have or you don't... you can fake it for awhile, but at some point it shows through. Until I can't fake it anymore, or I prove I have an "eye" I will continue working on making my photography better! Digital photography allows me instant feedback as to whether I've captured something wonderful or just another picture.

I'm a Mac person and use Aperture for organizing and post-processing of my photos: cropping, exposure, saturation, monochrome conversion, and highlights & shadows... I love Aperture! In addition, I use the plug-in's for Aperture from NIK Software.

I take a lot of pictures with my iPhone and thus have started another photostream that will house my iPhoneography an photos edited with Snapseed from NIK Software..

Yeah, so that's it. Like everything in my life, photography is another path to trying to understand what "it" is all about.

Cheers!
