A retired English teacher, I'm looking forward to devoting more time to an avocation --photography -- that I've been doing off and on for forty years.

I've been shooting photos, mostly film, since 1970. Up until several months ago, I used 1970-vintage Minoltas SRTs, the SRT 101 and 202, with a variety of lenses. I also own a small Rollei 35mm rangefinder, a Nikon SLR (N80), and a Nikon 35mm rangefinder. I've had a home darkroom (B & W and Ektachrome slides; Beseler 23C II enlarger) since the mid-70s, though I haven't used it much since the early 90s. I still shoot film, primarily black and white film and color slides, and hope I can rekindle an interest in darkroom work again.

As a part-time stringer for a weekly newspaper in lower Michigan in the mid-70s, I shot mostly high school athletic contests and some human interest photos.

I acquired my first DSLR (Nikon D80) several months ago but still feel like a novice when using it. It's much more complicated than my old SRTs. I suspect, however, that the more I use it, the less I'll return to film (oh-oh, there goes the darkroom). I'm beginning to see its capabilities and realize how much more I have to learn, especially with post-processing.

I look forward to viewing and commenting on many of the photos here at Flickr.
