So why do I take pictures of laundry? It started with a picture of a wet flannelette cloth on the line. Sodden with rain, that picture pretty much expressed how I felt that day. It was winter and I was home alone with Grace during the week. Domesticity, like it does for many new mothers, was closing in on me. I had just starting blogging (my main blog, muppinstuff ) and was the proud owner of a new to me digital camera. At various points during the day, I started taking pictures. The very act of documenting my life allowed me to see beauty or interest where before I had only seen drudgery. Then an idea popped into my head, what would happen if I wrote a blog that was limited in subject matter, never bothered about whether it was boring to others. And didn't concern myself that there were few, if any, readers? About doing the washing perhaps. And so Mrs Washalot came into being. Sometimes I'm surprised that I'm not bored with it yet, but I'm not..

I take and collect laundry related images including: washing on the line, laundromats, folding, washing machines, detergents, pictures from childrens books, pictures from the media, pegs, art and sculpture. My only rule is that the image needs to have at least one item or action in it that's laundry related. Once you start looking, it's amazing how many images there are and where they take you.
