My first camera was a 'Kodak Brownie Cresta' that Dad bought for me (when I lived in England) sometime between 1956 and 1960.

I guess I became interested in photography because Dad was. He had a range of cameras, all marvelous to my eyes - the bellows and the little levers to adjust the aperture fascinated me. Dad also developed his own film in the bathroom all blacked out with curtains and wooden window shutters. He made his own enlarger from a Tate & Lyle syrup tin, a large condensing lens and an old camera bellows. Suprisingly, it worked very well.

My next camera was a 'Kodak Fiesta', all cheap-looking plastic but it had a detachable flash unit that took flash bulbs! All very primitive by today's standards.

After the family had migrated to Melbourne Australia in 1966, I was given a Kodak Instamatic Camera. This lasted quite a while until I bought a second-hand Minolta SRT101 with a 50mm 1.4 lens. This was my first 35mm SLR camera. I later bought a cheapy 200mm lens for it. Used it a lot for Kodachrome slides and black and white film.

Then, due to personal circumstances, I went without a camera of any sort for a number of years. But prior to a trip to the UK in 2001 I purchased a Canon EOS3000. In a 3 month trip travelling around England, Scotland and Wales, I used up 65 rolls of film. $500 (Australian) for processing!

In January 2004, I bought a Canon PowerShot A70. My first digital camera. I had that for just over a year before I decided I need a bit more power - although I still think it's a great little camera. (Well it was until it died) So I got myself a Canon EOS 300D with a couple of lenses. After 18 months, I upgraded to a Canon EOS 30D, which is what I am using now.

I hope you like my pictures. I still often think of my Dad when I am taking photos. He would have absolutely loved digital!
