thank you for your interest in my photos

background
on these pages you'll find some of the work i like to make next to my professional use of photography. i'm not a professional photographer, but use photography professionally :-). i take quite some shots to document the projects i work on, e.g. organizational changes, installing and moving computer centres or huge software projects. that comes down to piles of pictures of hard working people, high tech equipment, heavy machinery, miles of wiring, training classes and dozens of computer screens (an impression of that is on this link). because of my occupation i travel a lot and get the chance to visit some odd places.

photography
i take pictures since i was five, using my fathers rolleicord. i got my own agfa isoly 4x4 rollfilm camera at six, probably because my father wanted me to stop using his camera. i learned to process and print at home in our bathroom-darkroom. my “style” (although that sounds a bit presumptuous for an amateur) was formed by the classical background my parents gave me; my father was an architect, which still explains for one of my main areas of interest. i regard henry cartier bresson and the other magnum photographers as my main sources of inspiration; photojournalism still is my passion, although as an amateur i find i hardly shoot anything that is worth printing. my other inspirer is annie leibovitz, which should be obvious from my almost-b&w collection. only recently i took up a study of photography at fotogram in amsterdam.

technology
i always have been fascinated by the technology of photography. from the start wanted to print as large as possible at maximum resolution. heavily influenced by the books of ansel adams, i used 50 asa b&w film in rollei 6x6 cameras and made my first 100x150cm print for an exhibition when i was 17. i also used praktica, pentax, olympus om10 and om2, nikon f-501, f-801, f5, d100 and d2x and canon g11 cameras (i don’t get involved in which-one-is-better-discussions; after buying 7 lenses you’re more or less stuck with a system). films used were mainly agfapan 100 pro for b&w, kodak ektachrome 64 for slides and royal gold 100 for prints. now i work digital only at 12.3 mpx raw from the d300s, processed with dxo7 and ps cs5. largest print to date is a 2x6 meter exhibition stand background, based on a 6.1 mpx d100 file that was re-sampled and sharpened in cs2 four times to give a 65 mpx file (still printing 5 mm pixels).

currently in the bag: nikon d300s, 2.8/10.5, 2.8//17-55, 1.8/35, 2.8/70-200, sb-800, sigma 1.4/30, canon g11, gisteq gps. on the desktop: dxo 6.1, ps cs5
