I consider myself primarily a street photographer and that is my passion.
Slideshows of my street pics here and here - with music.

Another is documenting the quirky side of life, especially the quirky side of American life.

I also enjoy tracking down and photographing houses from the 1930s to the mid-seventies. This has turned into a bit of a personal project. I moderate the following architecture groups:
Modernist Houses
Postwar Houses in the UK (1945-1980

In addition to flickr, you'll find me at:

Zuperquirk
And an interview at London Independent Photography

Oh, and I love collecting old slides.

"One of the kindest flickrers I've had the pleasure to know, Moxette is best-known for her own unflinching photos depicting neighbors and pedestrians, the locals in varied settings (urban, suburban, or seaside resorts) of Britain. So too she has a knack with inanimate elements (including funky mannequins, crazy kitsch, Deco & Art Moderne architecture).

Her candid street photos move comfortably between striking colour and deep, delicious black & whites. Mox never mocks the intriguing people in her photos -- not precious about her work, she is however protective of the people she selects as subjects. Full of good-natured humour, her images show that she truly cares -- she likes people.

The slang word *moxie* is defined as a combination of courage and inventiveness. Initiative, skill, know-how & gumption. Whenever I think I finally know how to come closer in describing Mox's style, grace & oeuvre... she pulls more determined magic from her top hat to confound me! Mox's varied photos are a unique brand of delightful surprises, no tricks."

"The photos you see here are testimony enough, but it needs to be said again that this photographer is awesome in so many different ways: humanistic, quirky, persistent, and very, very smart when it comes to catching insightful moments. I love seeing new stuff and visit frequently."

"Moxette is doing a grand job of documenting the quirky crinklies of Britain, here and elsewhere.
If there were a contest for a female Martin Parr, she would get many votes, including mine."

"Moxette has a very rare gift which leaves me stunned, the unique ability to capture the warmth and humanity of people in some of the finest most moving portrait shots i have ever seen, she captures people with a quite unique dignity. Her street photography has a surreal quirky edge.
Did i mention she is a genuinely nice person as well?"

"She is truly a gifted artist with a unique vision--and a unique chemistry in relating to people, as photo subjects. There are people where you can say...I want to step into the world of...X, or Y, or Z...or Bruce. or Mick, or Madonna, or, or, or..well, for me, I've gotten on the enthusiasm train early in the station for once, and I will say...Moxette is one solid photographer!"

    *estrella says:

"Moxette's images first struck me as a documentary or sorts, something akin to this particular genre - until, over time, i began to see that there is something far more personal going on here, a documentation, not only of people, places, shop fronts and seaside resorts...but a more intimate glimpse into the lives of her subjects.

Do they know her? perhaps not. But often they are aware of her watching them, and yet they never seem to take offence. This is where her talent lies - with the people themselves, her knack for disarming them, and in some strange way, gaining their trust.

The images tell us something of the souls of her subjects; those remarkable facial expressions, the stilted walk of a pensioner, a bored housewife travelling home from an afternoons shopping on the bus. Addictively voteuristic, her camera is like a mirror that throws the idol reflections of her passers-by in our direction, for us to ponder over, to feel for, and to share.
This is something i could never muster the nerve to do - so hats off to her!

    she is unique:))"

"Moxette, I especially like your photos. Many photos on Flickr are beautiful, showing landscapes and pretty things, but your photos of people (and mannequins :) are always interesting. They are something I can look at and enjoy at a simpler level. Your photos of regular people going about their daily business are really wonderful. I just wanted to tell you I appreciate your photos, and your descriptions. There is always more to your photos than first meets the eye. I'm new to your photos, so I'll understand if you choose not to post this. I just wanted to say thank you..."
