I was first into photography as a teenager and in my early 20s. I took some good black and white photos particularly of children. Then it became more difficult finding the time. Since going digital I've become more snap happy and since getting a digital SLR I've become keener and have started experimenting more. Getting feedback through flickr and learning from others has made this even more interesting. I just wish I had more time.
In March 2006 my youngest son - then aged 16 - was diagnosed with bone cancer and began chemotherapy and radiotherapy. At the point that his treatment should have been concluded he died as a result of cancer in his lungs. Some of my photographs - particularly some of them taken for the flickr 365 days project (take a photo a day for 365 days) - are a visual account of my experience as a parent of a child with cancer and as a parent grieving for their 17 year old son. A painful process but hopefully of some value too.
Photography has changed what I see. I look around and I see things that wouldn't be there for me if I hadn't had a camera.

I've been lucky - these are the places I've been to

c.swallow says:
"Malcolm has always had a natural gift for photography, and it has been a true joy to see that gift flower and grow roots so deep seeded, that some are convinced that Malcolm now lives in the world of framing pictures. Everywhere he goes he can be found snapping away.
Malcolm is brave, open and honest within his photography, and it is clear to see that he is a man who uses photography as a form of self-expression. Taking pictures of that which is always in some way connected to him, a part of him, a reflection of himself; and it is always a reward to view his work.
Malcolm continues to explore within his work, nature, colour, culture, abstraction, form and architectural relationships within environments. His diary entry style accompanying most of his work, gives a refreshing and highly personal connection between the viewer and the subject.
I would like to wish Malcolm all the best as he continues to develop and hone his own personal style, and excitedly look forward to the time when decides to house his work in a gallery."12th February, 2009

WeeRobbie says:
"cooliceblue has been an inspiration for me and I suspect many others with the photos he has shared with us over the last few months. He has been through the worst experience many of us can imagine and somehow has found the courage to keep taking amazing emotional photos and to share them with us. I hope these images will turn out to be something you and your family treasure even though I'm sure we all wish you had never had to take many of them."
