I live a very active life and spend a big portion of it outdoors, constantly challenging myself while climbing, hiking, travelling for tens of thousands of miles every year, and always choosing an off-beaten path. My inspirations are rugged mountains and oceans, deep forests and vast glaciers, endless deserts and remote lakes, and sharing my passion for outdoors with my loved ones and friends. Seeing the world as an observer is just not enough for me, I have to feel it with my hands and feet. I have to see it from the mountain summits and other hard-to-reach places. With a backyard like mine it is really not that hard to do.
For me photography is an outlet to share my vision of the world with people around. I always search for unusual landscapes, unique light or simply something beautiful.
While I still shoot a little bit with my 35mm film camera, I fully embraced the digital world and rarely part with my Canon 5D and a wide-angle lens.
----
I am often asked what cameras and lenses I use to take my photos. Recently, I switched almost entirely to digital. My gear bag includes:

- Canon 20D (backup camera)
- Canon EF 17-40 f/4L USM (my default landscape lens)
- Canon EF 70-200 f/4L USM (telephoto work)
- Canon EF 50 f/1.4 USM (low light outdoor lens for special situations; close-ups)
- Singh-Ray Graduated Neutral Density filters; Cokin P-series filter holder
- Hoya Pro circular polarizing filters
- UV filters
- Canon TC-80N3 Timer Remote Control
- Gitzo 1057 ultra-light tripod w/ RRS ballhead & plate
- SanDisk Ultra II CF memory cards
- HyperDisk H80 for mobile photo storage

Testimonials
Buck Forester says:
"Misha's wilderness images are about as good as they get. It's one thing to take pretty landscape images from accessible locations, but it's a whole different category to carry your camera with you to the highest peaks under the most adverse conditions many many miles from the nearest trailhead. Influenced by guys like Galen Rowell and Art Wolfe, but having his own defining style, I think we've only seen the beginning of Misha and his stunning images of high and wild places."
Fianna says:
"Misha has one of the most dramatically powerful streams of images I have yet seen on Flickr."
