About Mixed Species / Mixed Species  

We are four guys originally from rural parts of the northwest. We all converged at a Graphic House / Print Shop in a tiny little town in Oregon. Between the great coffee, great music and even greater amounts of beer we congealed like the skin on top of gravy! After printing and designing for local, regional and national clients the crazy voices began telling us our own ideas were good ... no BETTER than what we were creating for others. We began to wonder "Why CAN'T we celebrate Bloody Clowns and Thank You Cards on the same day .... NAY ... in the same sentence?"

Could be the beer talking, could be too much coffee or maybe it was time to start our own super group but what would we call ourselves? To be honest BigDaddyMeatStraw and TwoTonLoveHorse were both taken, so we went with our third favorite, Mixed Species. We wanted an icon we could use as a brand but also represented who we are and where we are from. At one time or another in our lives we had all seen the post card at the roadside gas station with a picture of a jackalope or the bait and tackle shop with an actual stuffed jackalope. The image seemed to fit our background, or wacky fashion sense and the duality of some of our repurposed products.
