Slvana Avila is an illustrator who plays with paint and small pieces of all kinds and shapes of paper and fabric. Tearing, cutting , pasting and using materials because of the texture and color is a pure pleasure for her. It’s a thrill concreting clean and tidy designs as well as emotional which reflect her own vision of life: imaginary landscapes, mysterious characters and a wide range of emotions are main topics in her pieces of work.
She is always looking forward to provoke expectation on the viewer and with it some kind of mistery and questioning to plant on them a sense of permanent search. As a little girl she wanted to become a Doctor; to literally open up hearts and touch brains. As a grownup she discovered that with her drawings she might do the same thing. She studied Graphic Design and Visual Communication acquiring a specialization in Illustration at National School of Fine Arts. In 2009, after 4 years of designing professionally for Advertising Agencies, she decided to establish as a freelance illustrator in her small studio right in the heart of Mexico City.

Her illustrations have appeared on three books for children, published by Fondo de Cultura Económica, Nostra Ediciones and Libros del Escarabajo, and she has also been regularly comissioned by bussines magazines, teen magazines, electronic magazines, art colaborations and private art commissions.

In 2008 was selected for the XVIII Illustrators Catalogue for Children and Teenagers Publications. And this year “Lee y a Soñar”, a Poster which main goal is to encourage people to read, was one of the few works selected to be exposed at Filij(International Fair of Children and Teenagers Publications).
