Founded in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Missouri S&T was the first U.S. technological school west of the Mississippi River. Renamed the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1964, the university formally became Missouri University of Science and Technology on Jan. 1, 2008.
