A NOTE TO MY FELLOW GEORGIANS:

The Georgia DOR-Motor Vehicle Division is offering a new special license plate, $ 22 of which go to the "Dept. of Natural Resources for use by the Historic Preservation Division to fund historic preservation programs in the state". Now, we all love the interesting decay, but I'd rather see some of the stuff restored than torn down.

A NOTE TO MY FELLOW FLICKR MEMBERS:

I enjoy viewing your photos and when I comment it comes from the heart. I will no longer, or rarely, remark on photos with an endless thread and numerous award icons, because those tend to explode my "comments you have made" pages making it impossible for me to keep up with photos I want to keep up with. But don't despair - I will still fave and definitely view!

"Dagmar is a supreme photographer and a great American Studies photo specialist. Few people told me more about the South than she did. Her photos are the equivalent of alt.country in music. The State of Georgia should make her an honorary Georgian. It'd be a shame to insist that she pays her state tax.... Hats off!"

    J.R. Ball says:

"Dagmar captures the abandon loneliness and rural decay of Americana in a way that is both fantastic and poignant. Her compositions are windows to a bygone era--perfectly crafted snapshots of the past that refuse to lose their relevance in spite of society's disregard. She gives a soul to the collective memory that is our history. She is not to be overlooked."

"With an incomparable eye for composition, and an uncanny sense for that perfect tone, a visit to Dagmar's photostream is always a treat. It seems as though every day she is off on an adventure in her Volvo, accompanied by her American Bulldog (the BEST breed of dog). Even better than viewing her photos, is reading the information that she has collected about each one. Every photo is a page in a storybook called "Georgia"."

"You can search far and wide, but I doubt that you will find anyone with the commitment and passion of Dagmar. She is an outstanding historian, and her site serves as an amazing visual documentary. Underneath it all, she is a brilliant photographer with a genuine love of her craft. As a Southerner, I find her work compelling and heartwarming. Spend some time and immerse yourself in what she has compiled here. Through her eyes, you will see an honest representation of a grand heritage, and you will discover why we should make every effort to preserve what remains."

"I absolutely agree with Terrapin Dawg. I found her site by chance and I'm slowly working my way through it. I have a great interest in history and southern culture. In addtion to being an accomplished photgrapher, her subject matter is very interesting to me. I especially appreciate the historical narratives she adds to many of her photos. Anyone with similar interests will thoughly enjoy this site."

    Terrapin Dawg says:

"Dagmar's passion for southern history and the smalltown communities throughout the south is evident by merely glancing at her photostream. Her travels, accompanied by her old Volvo station wagon and Milka(her dog), show another side of Georgia that often plays a backseat to the metro Atlanta area. From old signs to busted out church windows to abandoned stores, MilkaWay captures the true essence of the south while adding background information to her photos to help educate Flickr viewers. Take the time to look through this photostream and you won't be disappointed."
