I find it useful to understand how these sites work as I do a little voluntary work helping people learn to use and enjoy computers.

I am just a browser and great appreciator of the vast talent and creativity that I see on Flickr. Though I tend to keep a low profile, and just post a few pictures as the fancy takes me, sometimes I cannot help myself leaving the odd comment, and bookmarking my favourites for future reference: If you are reading this it is probably because I liked your work, so hi!.. and thank you!

Update July 2011. I am able to be more active on Flickr this year as a very kind friend has gifted me a pro account. I won't say who in case it embarrasses her! I am very grateful as it gives me the opportunity to see how a pro account works.
