Mission

Our program is primarily dedicated to documenting:

* Mandated functions of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions – education, research, and healthcare delivery
* Governance and administration of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions
* Lives of faculty, staff, and alumni of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions
* Cultural properties of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions

Our major objectives are to:

* Collect and preserve records and cultural materials critical to the legacy and ongoing operations of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions
* Promote access to collections for use as primary resources in research and education

Scope of Holdings

Dates of materials in the Medical Archives range from the middle of the nineteenth century to the present.

The Archives collects and preserves materials relating to the history of the following institutions and individuals associated with them, for the purpose of advancing the defined missions of research, health care delivery, education and training:

* Johns Hopkins Hospital
* Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
* Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
* Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

The Archives collects and preserves the following types of materials, in both digital and hard-copy formats:

* Records of governance and administration
* Student records
* Correspondence, scrapbooks, diaries
* Notebooks
* Laboratory records
* Architectural records
* Photographs and film
* Oral histories
* Artifacts, equipment and instrumentation
