I’m a blogger, editor, writer and slinger of web pages. Among other things, I’m the author of The Map Room, a blog about maps, and DFL, a blog about last-place finishes at the Olympics. When I’m not blogging, writing or correcting other people's grammar, I raise snakes, play the piano, and look through my telescope.

On Flickr you will frequently see me try my hand at astrophotography (in 2009 this has meant repeated tries at photographing the Moon) and identifying snakes in other people's photos.

I currently shoot with a Nikon D90; I also have a Canon PowerShot SD780 for when I don’t have my full DSLR kit with me.

I shot with a Nikon Coolpix 995 until December 2006 and a Nikon D40 until September 2008, but I’m so far behind on uploading photos that images from all three cameras will probably appear on my Flickr photostream for some time to come.
