The Macon County Historical Society was founded in 1946 as a result of the effort to save the Nikwasi Indian Mound in downtown Franklin, North Carolina, USA. Today we are housed in the old Pendergrass building on Main Street. Built in 1904, our building is on the National Historic Register and is one of the finest examples of a mercantile.
