Retired Sheffield University academic, behavioural ecologist and neuroscientist. Worked on electric fish for 20 years, rats and humans for 15 years. Still working part-time on Parkinson's Disease at the Salpêtrière hospital in Paris. Here is our current study on Parkinsonian gait.

Dedicated Human Rights watcher - particularly worried about the lack of small arms control and the horrendous effects of their availability in human rights abuses around the world. Webmaster (Webmestre) for the Burgundy sector of the French Section of Amnesty International (In French obviously)
Retired from academe to South Burgundy in 2001 for a calmer, if more anarchic, life. Not uninfluenced by better climate and challenge of house restoration - food and vineyards also played a tiny role ;-)

"Max xx is my favorite photographer in all of flickr land. But I'm looking at more than his photography because all you do informs your art.
Max is a beekeeper, a metal sculptor, and a neuroscientist. He has a terrific sense of humor. And you get the feeling, looking at his photographs—which, not incidentally, are as fine as anything ever seen in Natty Geo—that he's the kind of person you'd like to spend some hours with talking politics and drinking wine (with the significant others in tow, of course!).
Max is obviously fond of the macro, but it's not his only trick. Perhaps the greatest benefit of his photography is not the picture itself as much as it is the explanation. I am learning more about insects and birds and honey and France and veggies than I've ever learned before.
Thank you, Max, for sharing.
(I do think he should change his moniker to Max XXX, as many of his shots are rather, well, risqué.)
