I'm Maurice Domingo Octo Ayal, I'm a 22 year old graphic design student who lives in Groningen, the Netherlands and I'm of Moluccan, Dutch, German and Javanese heritage.

I was never really interested in serious photography and I had never heard about flickr. I mean, I always liked taking photos but never thought of photography as a form of art and I wasn't as serious about it as I am now.

In October 2007 a friend told about a certain Tommy who always carries around his camera. He showed me his photostream on flickr and I was stunned when I saw the photos. I wondered if I could take photos like that and I decided to try and take serious photos.

A few months later, I was visiting my friend in Glasgow and he introduced me to this Tommy at his exhibition in Sky park. Six months later I moved to Glasgow for my work placement and Tommy became my flatmate.

Now quite some time later I'm still hesitate to call myself a photographer. When you've lived with someone like Tommy Ga-Ken Wan you start to think you're not a photographer unless you're as obsessed with photography as he is.
