"Mary-Ann's work it total inspiration. Over- analyzing her paintings would do no justice. One needs to view each painting individually and allow your senses to absorb the beauty. Thanks for being such a wonderful flickr contact"

    nasren art says:

"Mary Ann is a rarity, a wonderfully expressive artist and a generous soul to other artists here on Flickr. Both things separately deserve praise, together they deserve worship. Her work has a wonderful meditative, calm feel when composed in the horizontal plane, and a dynamic sexuality and tension when composed along the diagonal and off-diagonal. Of the many good artists on Flickr she is the one whose work touches me the most, and as a generous supporter of other artists she has no peer — and I cannot say enough in support of her."

    Sophie Shapiro says:

"I was drawn to Mary Ann’s work when I first joined Flickr because her work was intense and heightened my own interest in art and history. Her work generates a range of luminous percepts that work together to bring light and form to her abstract paintings which vary in intensity and colour. The interpretation of Mary Ann’s paintings is of course down to each individual but one cannot help thinking that the design and patterns she applies to her work are a wider physical concrete expression of life. I am very pleased that I have had the opportunity to meet Mary Ann. Our ordinary lives may not have allowed us the luxury of this meeting, however the internet as given us a rare opportunity not only to view but also discuss our many interests and works of art. Her magical portfolio takes one to a place of peace and calm. The lines she paints generate a feeling of euphoria through which she expresses a joy for life. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful painter in our midst who offers us a great deal through her wonderful work. Thank you Mary Ann for sharing your paintings with us all!

"Mary ann is a special soul-sista kind of friend to me...
I feel connected to her paintings not only in a visual sense but connected emotionally. I always enjoy looking through her photostream and also digging into the older works!
I am always in awe of artists such as Mare who breathe, eat and sleep visual realms...and create a sense of beauty within their life and within the canvas...etc.
I hope I have expressed what it is I feel. Writing is not a strong point of mine...but I am happy to write today in June of 2009 this testimonial for my dear friend."

"I am going to join the long list of admirers of Mary Ann's work. Her paintings are like music to me. They are a little bit Tchaikovsky and a little bit Beethoven. It is clear that she is totally 'connected' to her canvas. She paints her story and does it well."

    J A Mortram says:

"Where to begin... I could conjure comparisons with other painters from the history of fine art, or define moments from life that echo and resonate through M.A.Wakeley's work... but both actions pale compared to the immediate initial response one is given when first encountering her paintings.

Such is the tidal force of her art... their gravity... the use of form, colour and space to convey, to capture such strong and varied emotions.

There is a painterly evolution apparent, life's many plateaus from the very real to fragments of the sub-conscious, landscapes of the inner self and portraits of events, of the dynamics of all things and all moments.

Her evident mastery of the craft is on display as natural as a fingerprint and as individual.

Abstract art can often be un-engaging, can initiate a self imposed distance between the image and the viewer or do exactly the contrary - be so saccharine that it becomes a bland wall paper.

M.A. defies both traps and through a bright internal language expresses thoughts, moods and ideas with great ease and you meet her works as if two souls with different languages but able to communicate still, through a basic shared vocabulary a sign language or a body language... and without compromise or forced effort it is a joyful endeavor to study each of M.A's works as they all so deftly tell us a story. Beautiful work."

    Daniel Colvin says:

    "La Artiste Femme

She painted in swirling calligraphies of passion
In a language all but the oldest Gods forgot
But she laid down her forms with an eloquence
    That let mortal kind understand
    Well,...
All the important people that is.
    The ones who *see*

You could feel her desires and her teases
You could see the swirling dervish phrases
    Repetition as mantra
    But never quite the same
    Each time unique
Until the synthesized swirl of yes
Resounded like cataracts splashing on caliphite granite
    White noise soliloquy
Drowning in all the colors that make the world right
Mirroring all the words that the poet doth wright

I would thank her for her gifts
    A thousand different ways
    (candy box of treasure kisses
A blooming meadow, with secret blisses)
    All as diverse and unified
As the birch-board song she silently plays"

"Through the art of Mary Ann Wakeley we are allowed to view the creation of a New World. Color, Space, Movement & Passion collide & combine into a unique and intriguing Reality. Though her art is not realism, still, it is powerfully Real in every way! The flowing shapes blend and bend, caress and prod one another into an all together pleasing palette formed by the hand of this Masterful Artist. Mary Ann's work stimulates me to explore in new directions and to embrace the unexpected."

Hélène Deroubaix(old flickr not here anymore) says:

"Mary ann is a beautiful soul that paint with the colors of her emotions, her secrets.
That is what I sense in her work : the secrets, because you can interprete abstract the way you want to read it, she keeps her mysteries of how the piece is born:)
I adore her choice of colors, it really touches me and most of her work grab me at once.
She is one of my favourite contemporary abstract artist and I am lucky to know her( a little but still :) and consider her as a generous, open minded kind very supportive and sharing friend.
You are inspiring and I am glad to know you Mary Ann:)

    Blessed be!"

    Wulfric says:

"Good abstract work which carries on the neo-plasticist tradition, continuing from where Piet Mondrian left off. He [Mondrian] was starting to look in this direction when he settled in America, for example "Broadway Boogy-Woogie" which is, I believe in MOMA NY.
    M. A. Wakeley's work does not go for the hard edge typical of this ouvre but gives the whole a softer, more feminine touch which is very pleasing to the eye."
