Photography is one of the few hobbies that I've maintained a keen interest in since I was a youngster. I started off with cheap point and shoots, my favourite of which was a Kodak camera with a handle that doubled up as a cover. That camera could be deployed like a gunslinger and "pocket to shot" time was less than a second. I then ventured into using an Olympus XA 35mm camera before using SLRs. I had a darkroom for a while. My first digital camera was a Pentax Optio S4i which I still use occasionally because it is smaller than an altoids tin.

I have a Canon A720IS for use with CHDK which is programmable and has motion detection, focus stacking, time lapse etc. Although I have a Canon 450D with an assortment of lenses and a rucksack to carry them, my most reached for camera is a Panasonic LX3 which is just lovely to use. The Fuji F31fd would be my camera of choice for a point and shoot in reasonable light since it has solid build quality, lovely colours, a good lens and a superb battery life.

I tend towards landscape photography because it is so difficult to get it right. It involves predicting the weather, getting up early, being at the right place and being patient enough to wait for the light to be kind. I doubt that I'll ever capture the "perfect" image but seeing some of the excellent work of others posted on Flickr keeps me motivated enough to try.
