I'm in love with a wonderful man named Wil...

Marline and Wil

I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 4100, in March 2005 to share pictures back and forth with friends. What can I say I was 23 and Friendster was all the rage. I had never had a particular interest in photography, other than a great and unabiding love for beautiful pictures of myself, but I felt I should own a quality camera nonetheless. The first time I really used my camera was at my cousin's wedding last April, and 100+ pictures later I was hooked. Plus I loved how my digital camera could also record about 14 minutes of video depending on the size of the memory card (256MB).

As of August 2007 I am now the proud owner of my husband Wil's old Canon Rebel XT. Oh and some of his old lenses, Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM and Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II (nifty fifty). So now more Nikon point and shoot for me (Oh I gave it to my mother-in-law).

When I met my fiance Wil, I wasn't the best photographer. Heck I was just a person with a camera who took pictures. I knew nothing about framing, or aperture, or f-stops, pretty much all I knew was that the more mexapixels you had the bigger a print you could make, and it would be less grainy. Wil patiently took me under his SLR wing and attempted to teach me the basics. i still consider myself a novice with a camera, but at least now I don't just take pictures. I create an image, an idea, sometimes art.

That being said, I consider myself a pretty nice person and I have one Flickr rule: Do not add me as a contact simply to add to your number of contacts. This is not Friendster or MySpace. Oh and don't add me if you've never left a comment on one of my pictures. My thinking is why would someone want to add me as a contact if they don't like my pictures. On Flickr the way we express liking a photo is to either comment or favorite. Part of the reason I am here is to learn from other people and get better at photography. I hope we all help each other out.

Take care everybody.

Oh and I can understand comments in English and French.

Que Dieu soit avec toi tous les jours de ta vie!

When he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heav'n so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
~William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

"Marline is a stand-up girl and a great friend. She is absorbing photography very quickly and proud of it. Take a look at her current photos so see a snapshot of NYC and of her changing life. Well done Marline!"
