I went to see the gypsy the other night
She looked in my palm, looked me in the eye
And said 'you’re a lucky man'.
~ Lucky Man by Bruce Springsteen
There's style...and then there's JerseyStyle.
I do consider myself a lucky man. Based in the great state of New Jersey, I shoot mainly with a Canon 20D body and a 17-85mm lens. Over the past seven years, I've progressed from a plastic point-and-shoot (how I recorded my first trip to Europe) to a Canon Rebel film, to a Canon A80 digital point-and-shoot to now the 20D and a Sony Cybershot that I use mainly while cycling (fits nicely in the back jersey pocket) and to shoot short vids.
I've been fortunate to have a couple of close friends who are world-class photographers and they have gently and patiently showed me the way to making nice photos. I still have a lot to learn though, that's for sure, and the wonderful people on Flickr has been a source of education and inspiration for me.
I tend to look at every day objects - that shoelace, a knife on the table, a glass of wine - and see if I can put my camera in a new place and photograph them in a new light. I also enjoy shooting the great state of New Jersey. From the cities to the shore, this is a beutiful state and I try to capture that. Also in the past year, I'd begun using textures and layers to create a particular mood or feel to my photos. I challenge myself with personal projects as well, be it my "noir-style" conceptual images (on-going), my Photo-A-Day for 365 days (2007) or my 100 Strangers (current) project).
I've loved the fact that I can make some great Flickr friends while here. If you'd like to add me as a contact though, please just drop me a note (before or after adding me) telling me how you found me or why you're adding me. I just like to know a bit about who's adding me and how you came to find me.

"I've enjoyed Mark's photos ever since I joined Flickr. I believed he was one of my first contacts on here. He captures beautiful comps and colors. At times, goes for the sharper edge (see my faves from him) I'm glad I've had the pleasure to view his work on a day to day basis. It's pretty...wait for it...awesome."
Rickydavid says:
"Mark is a real photographer, he is able to transform quotidianity in pieces of art. I like his noir approach, his still life shots and his love for family.
Thanks

"Mark's work is consistently engaging. Among his varied subject matter you’ll find images from the lesser known beautiful back roads of New Jersey to highly atmospheric creations eliciting an undeniable burst of emotion to mouthwatering delicacies which inevitably result with me running to the fridge. Whatever Mark chooses to shoot you can be assured of this much: it comes from the heart. And how can anything so real and true not be captivating?"

Point-Shoot-Edit says:
"Whenever I look through Marks photostream, I'm shown what my photographs Could be. He sees many of the same things I do, yet captures them in a fresh manner. I learn alot seeing his perspective, or how he cropped something to really enhance the focal point. He has a fantastic eye for detail others may miss. I'm entertained and educated by Marks work and thoroughly enjoy myself when I visit his page."
