Marjolyn’s work has developed from her intense desire to create imagery that speaks to a deeper level than pretty pictures. She explores the way in which imagery triggers memories of familiar places and times. Her goal is to make the viewer aware of how they see their world. How they live in a city and can connect to their world through their memory of their past experiences.

Every image is drawn from memory, imagination and suspended moments of daily life of living in an urban environment. By attempting to find visual cues, Marjolyn draws the viewer into a window of time that is familiar. This familiarity for the viewer reminds them of another time and place.

To remember is often a visceral experience. Marjolyn’s use of mixed media lends itself to this experience. By blending handmade paper, tissue paper, modeling paste and acrylic paint, Marjolyn creates imagery that creates its own memory.

Marjolyn studied painting at Parsons School of Art and Design in New York City and received a BFA from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. She also holds a BA with honors degree in Mass Communications from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Currently Marjolyn works from her studio in the Distillery District in Toronto and travels through the US exhibiting in top art fairs across the country. She is represented by several galleries in Toronto and is in several corporate collections in North America.
