MARIONET is a theatre company created in Coimbra, Portugal, in 2000. It has a need for constant experimentation reflected in a vast formal and content variety at each work, and makes a clear investment in new professionals and new ideas. One of the paths MARIONET follows since 2001 is the creation of science theatre plays, having produced six plays in this field. Through this reunion between science and theatre MARIONET aims to find new possibilities in the relation between science and society but also to develop new paths for its artistic work. The company has created, since its beginning, thirteen original theatre productions, which have been financially supported in the last four years by the Direcção-Geral das Artes, the branch of Portuguese Ministry of Culture responsible for the promotion and development of the Arts. MARIONET is a founding member of MAFIA – Federação Cultural de Coimbra, an organization that supports the arts and promotes the sharing of logistics among artistic companies.
