I'd had a Minolta SLR film system years ago and loved the versatility of what could be done.
Then came digital.
I moved to a Canon S40 4.0mb which was great for travel but lacked so much of what the DSLRs can do.

Early this year (2007) I bought a Nikon D200 and am getting to know it as time goes.
Lenses;
Nikkor 18-200mm VR
Sigma 10-20mm
Nikkor 105mm VR Macro.

I've more recently been struck by the HDR phenomenon.
It makes photography fun. I use a tripod & wireless shutter release.
I'm looking for feedback to understand better how the HDR process works.
I use Photomatix Pro tone mapping. Sometimes I tone map with Photoshop but don't like the results as well.

Photoshop CS3 is my primary graphics editor.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Love to get any comments you might have.

HDR BASICS;

From time to time I get questions about High Dynamic Range (HDR) and how the process works. I assembled several links that give you the ABCs of understanding & creating an HDR image. These are the basics and they've worked for me (so far). Everything you need to know is covered in the following 3 links.

I use Photomatix Pro 2.5 for all my HDR processing. There's a free copy of the "PRO" version which will leave a "Photomatix" watermark on the final image but you can "clone" that out.

To capture a properly exposed HDR you'll need a camera that will allow "bracketing". A tripod and a remote shutter release. Any camera movement between or during the shot will blur the result.

For proper exposure read this.

The ABC's of HDR are explained here.

Yes, I spend as much time as needed to fine tune the final image. The tutorials above gave me the basics. It's trial & error but it'll happen for you.

    "If I ever start to think there is a category for Manas' work, I make sure to visit his site again.......and am sure to be surprised. His HDR technique is a thing of beauty, while he mixes blown-glass abstracts with orange-robed visages from another culture--amid a steady flow of surreal images from everyday life. Nothing escapes his eye, nothing is beyond his technique. Keep em coming, Manas. Your audience awaits."
